§ 7-183. Failure to repair, vacate or demolish.

  • (a)

    If the owner fails to repair or vacate pursuant to such order within the time prescribed, the administrator may cause the building to be vacated and closed and may cause to be posted on the main entrance to any building so closed a placard with the following words:

    This building is unfit for human habitation, use or occupancy. The use or occupancy of this building by humans is prohibited and unlawful.

    (b)

    If the owner fails to comply with such order to repair within the time prescribed, the administrator may cause such building to be repaired, altered or improved in accordance with the order. If such repairs, alterations or improvements are determined by the administrator to cost in excess of fifty (50) percent of the value of said building according to the true value on record at the Lee County Tax Assessor's Office, the administrator may cause such building to be removed or demolished.

    (c)

    If, within the time fixed by the administrator for repairs, alterations or improvement of such building, the administrator finds there has been substantial compliance with the provisions of the order or that the owner has filed with the administrator a copy of a written contract with a contractor to make such repairs, alterations or improvements as ordered, the administrator may extend the time for compliance for an additional period not to exceed sixty (60) days.
